The name Spencer Elden may not ring any bells, but grunge fans are sure to be intimately – and unknowingly – familiar with him.
Elden was the naked infant pictured on the cover of Nirvana’s 1991 seminal breakthrough album Nevermind. Now, 17 years later, Elden is all grown up, and recently the teen decided to recreate the iconic Kirk Weddle image.
Elden, whose parents were initially paid $200 to use him in the shoot, was also the proud recipient of a platinum record plaque honoring Nevermind’s breakout success, though not much else.
The notoriety that came with the photo’s worldwide circulation, however, was well worth the effort.
Speaking to MTV news, the 17-year old California high school student reminisced, “It’s kind of creepy [to think] that that many people have seen me naked – I feel like I’m the world’s biggest porn star.”
Wisely, Elden chose this time around to keep his swim trunks on!
