At the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Sept. 7, Korn frontman Jonathan Davis commented on the extended break his band is currently on and also spoke about his new solo band the Simply F----n’ Amazings.
“[Korn’s] been going 15 years, and we need to just chill out for awhile,” said Davis. “And you know me, I got to keep playing. I got to write music so I don’t go crazy, so I decided it would be a perfect time to do this. It’s not like a hiatus or anything; we’re still all good. It’s just when everybody’s ready, we’ll go back together and go do it. We just need to recharge our batteries and get hungry again.”
Davis, who went on the Alone I Play Tour last year, said he hopes to have his solo record out by year’s end and follow that with a tour, pushing back the recording of Korn’s ninth studio album to 2009. Korn last released an album in July ’07.
Former Korn guitarist Brian “Head” Welch, who left the band in 2005 after becoming a born again Christian, released his debut solo album Save Me From Myself on Tuesday, Sept. 9. At the MTV Video Awards, Davis reportedly wished Welch luck and urged him to return to Korn. ―Ellen Mallernee
