Does Jack White ever sleep? It’s a reasonable question, given the number of projects he juggles.
Thus far, those projects – from the White Stripes to the Raconteurs to the Dead Weather – have been billed as collaborations, but Music Connection magazine is reporting that White “hopes to start working on a solo album at the end of 2009.”
Not counting his contributions to the Cold Mountain film soundtrack, the songs would constitute White’s first-ever-released solo material. In his in-depth interview with Music Connection, White gave no details about the disc, but he did talk expansively about his desire to direct films, his dislike of Pro Tools and the roster of his Third Man Records label.
“Get away from Pro Tools,” White said, when asked what advice he would give to other artists. “Get away from trying to find the right mathematical equation that will get your song on the radio. If the songs aren’t pure to begin with and they can’t make it by being recorded on a 4-track, then they shouldn’t be there in the first place.”
