Of U2 has announced that the band’s concert this Sunday (Oct. 25) at the Pasadena Rose Bowl in California will be streamed live, for free, on YouTube. According to BBC News, U2 manager Paul McGuinness said that since plans already called for the show to be filmed, it was “the perfect opportunity to extend the party beyond the stadium.”
Fans in 16 countries, as far flung as the U.S. and India, will be able to view the show. Following the live stream, the concert reportedly will be available as video-on-demand on both U2.com and YouTube.
Throughout the concert, YouTube will also offer viewers the means to chat via Twitter, as well as the option to donate money to Bono’s RED charity via a “donate now” button. McGuinness went on to say the band has been “wanting to do something like this” for a long time.
“Fans often travel long distances to come to see U2,” he said. “This time, U2 can to go them, globally.”
