The Buzzcocks, Mike Rutherford and Starsailor join the bill for the Indy Music Awards 2008
London, England 18th April 2008 - Gibson Guitar, the world’s premier musical instrument manufacturer and leader in music technology, announced their sponsorship of the Gibson Guitar Best Alternative Act Award at this year’s Indy Music Awards in London. The 2008 INDY Music Awards have confirmed many top industry names and artists such as Genesis’ Mike Rutherford, Starsailor and Buzzcocks will join some of the UK’s hottest independent talent to perform at this year’s Indy Awards at The Forum on Friday 25th April. As part of Gibson Guitar sponsorship a Gibson Les Paul Studio electric guitar will be signed by the many performing artists and celebrity guests before being auctioned off on the main stage.
Genesis guitarist Mike Rutherford will present the Gibson Guitar Award for Best Alternative Act. Mike Rutherford was a founding member of Genesis and later front man of Mike & The Mechanics.

The INDY Music Awards highlight the very best in emerging live music and is the UK’s only awards scheme to fully recognise the venues, promoters and artists that keep the grassroots music scene thriving. The cream of independent talent from across the UK will be taking to the stage on the night with performances from shortlisted INDY Music Awards artists including Dawn Kinnard, Thee Vicars, Shuffle, Vimala, Little Fish and The Penny Black Remedy. Performing alongside this wealth of new talent will be indie favorites Starsailor, who are currently recording their fourth album and will be treating fans to a three song set at the ceremony.
Organisers have also introduced a brand new award for this year’s ceremony. The Inspiration Award will be picked up by punk legends Buzzcocks who will also delight INDY Music Awards fans with what promises to be a fantastic closing performance featuring some of their classic hits.
The INDY Music Awards will be filmed live this year for Rockworld TV. Long time respected champion of new music, Gary Crowley will present the program which is due to go out on Sky Channel 368 on Monday 5th May.
