Gibson Original’s Feature Instrument: The New, Period-Inspired Limited Gibson Victorian F5 Mandolin

The year was 1913. One year before the “war to end all wars” broke out in Europe, Katharine Lee Bates was busy completing her inspired final edits to the third and final installment of “America the Beautiful.” Meanwhile, the Victorian Era in America was just about finished, though many tried desperately to hold on as the Progressive Era was in full swing. At the turn of the century, Gibson was building on its reputation as the premier mandolin maker in North America. By 1913 the mandolin world had already been turned upside down by the ground-breaking creation of Orville Gibson’s “F”-style and “A”-style mandolins, and Gibson was continuing to improve on those early designs with models like the heralded F4, F2, A4, and A3. Fascinating in appearance and tone, these mandolins were the world’s finest.

One Giant Leap for Ampkind: Gibson Pro Audio Introduces the GA-42RVT Amplifier (Sound Clips!)

Electric guitar tone was born on a Gibson amp. Gibson was the first major manufacturer to introduce a standard-production electric guitar in the form of the ES-150 with a “Charlie Christian” pickup, and the EH-150 amp went right alongside it. In the intervening years Gibson has often been seen as an underdog in the amp world, even while the company’s guitars were king of the hill, but that perception is rapidly changing. Simultaneous to players and collectors coming to appreciate the soulful tone of classic vintage Gibson tube amps such as the GA-40T of the late 1950s, Gibson Labs is today reclaiming its place with the new Handbuilt Series of vintage-voiced, all-tube guitar amplifiers. These are amps built with the tone of yesterday, but with added features and functions required by hard-gigging players of today.

Worldwide Rave Reviews of Robot Guitar Pour In!

The Robot Guitar has just been made available to the public today. People are still waiting in line for the chance to purchase one, and already it's garnering rave reviews in some of the world's top publications and news sites. Have a look for yourself: Newsweek: “The Robot Guitar is nothing short of magic… It takes all of 10 seconds for the Robot Guitar to do its thing—and blow your mind as it hasn’t been blown since the first time you heard ‘Eruption.’” AOL: “This particular color was designed specifically for the Robot Guitar and is sadly not available on any other instrument from Gibson, but we hope thischanges soon. Most importantly, this ax maintains that classic Les Paul tone—thick, buttery, and smooth. In fact, it sounds so good, it almost feels like cheating. Even a novice can sound like Jimmy Page with a Les Paul strapped on.” Forbes: “Legendary guitar-maker Gibson has taken on the challenge of making a user-friendly instrument that tunes itself, known as the Robot Guitar. The famous Gibson Les Paul design is intact, and apparently sounds the same as always, but with the twist of a peg and a few strums the Robot Guitar comes to life and tunes itself. Tunings are pre-set, meaning that guitarists can switch from Metallica to Joni Mitchell without spending an hour fiddling with the strings.”
