Chickenfoot, the new supergroup featuring Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony of Van Halen, Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Joe Satriani, have cancelled tonight’s show at the Palacio De Los Deportes in Madrid, Spain, due to an injury sustained by drummer Smith during their show in Paris two nights ago.
In a statement posted on its Web site, the band said:
“We are sorry to inform our Spanish fans that Chickenfoot cannot perform [tonight] in Madrid due to a serious injury to drummer Chad Smith. Chad was performing on stage [Monday] night in Paris and during the show he hurt his right arm badly. He has torn his small bicep and cannot play the show [in Madrid]. The band is very sorry they cannot play for their Spanish fans this week and plan to return as soon as possible.”
The European leg of Chickenfoot’s first tour is supposed to continue Friday night (July 3) at the Blues Festival in Pistoia, Italy, and then on July 4 at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, but there has been no indication that those shows would also be cancelled.
Chickenfoot’s first North American tour is still set to begin in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Aug. 2.
