Flaming Lips’ Fans Get Free EP with Tour Tickets

Aidin Vaziri | 06.24.2009

The Flaming Lips new album, Embryonic, isn’t coming out until later this year, but the Oklahoma psychedelic rock band is offering its fans who buy online tickets to its upcoming U.S. tour a sneak preview of the double-disc set.

Using a unique code they receive after purchasing the album, Lips fans will be able to download a digital EP that includes the new songs, “Convinced of the Hex,” “The Impulse” and “Silver Trembling Hands,” along with three rare B-sides plucked from the Flaming Lips’ vaults by band members.

Additionally, they will be sent a link to download an official bootleg of the concert they purchased the tickets for.

But while the giveaway is labeled as “free,” the band’s online tickets will cost approximately $4 more than standard tickets.

According to Pollstar, the group will be playing the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles Aug. 17; the Fox Theatre in Pomona, Calif., Aug. 18; McMenamins Edgefield Amphitheater in Troutdale, Ore., (Near Portland) Aug. 20; Marymoor Amphitheatre in Redmond, Wash., Aug. 21; Red Rocks outside Denver Aug. 23; Chastain Park Amphitheatre in Atlanta, Ga., Aug. 26; Merriweather Post Pavilion in Landover, Md., Aug. 28; Festival Pier in Philadelphia Aug. 29 and BofA Pavilion in Boston on Aug. 30.

The Flaming Lips are also playing the Del Mar Summer Concert Series in California on Aug. 15, however that show is not included as part of the promotion.
