Has the summer’s heat caused VH1 to lose its mind?
From July 6 through October 13, its VH1 Classic channel is going to air what’s it’s calling “100 Concerts in 100 Days.” From the very network that normally plays host to the travails of bottom-feeder “New York” (and has rewarded her foolishness with not one but four spin-offs, but I digress) comes a hard, long look at classic concerts that have rocked our world.
Basically, this rocks. A music channel is going to be airing music.
Besides screening old favorites, the network is premiering the documentary Roc Doc: Iron Maiden: Flight 666. The film tells the story of Iron Maiden’s ‘Somewhere Back In Time’ tour last year, which saw frontman Bruce Dickinson manning the cockpit on the way to and from all 23 of its tour destinations.
Other highlights include the premiere of films Rock Across America, VH1 Classic’s 100 Concerts in 100 Days, Roc Doc: Lords of the Revolution, Roc Doc: Woodstock 40 Years Later, Download Festival, and Hard Rock Calling Festival. Among artists to be highlighted are Tina Turner, Brian Wilson, INXS, The Clash, Men at Work, Bruce Springsteen, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd.
Information on the VH1 Classic Web site is scarce; a press release from the channel heralded the announcement on Wednesday. Stay tuned for programming schedules.
