If you know anything about Flaming Lips concerts, you know that there are and always will be furry costumed creatures dancing on-stage and that frontman Wayne Coyne will probably start things off by rolling out over the crowd inside a huge, transparent beach ball. Things have been that way for years. It never gets old.
Nashville, Tenn.’s Rites of Spring festival, held on Vanderbilt University’s lawn this past weekend was no exception. The Flaming Lips headlined despite the rain on Saturday night, following up stellar Friday performances by Santigold, Q-Tip and T.I. and Saturday performances by N.E.R.D. and Grand Ole Party. Photographer Rocky Yosek captured all the Flaming Lips magic, including Coyne’s incredible doubleneck Epiphone G-1275.
