Legendary Gibson Signature Artist BB King Plays the Blues at Wembley Arena in London

Jeremy Singer | 07.02.2009

Blues legend and Gibson signature artist BB King performed as ever with his beloved Lucille guitar at London’s Wembley Arena. BB King is currently on the road in the UK and across Europe promoting his 2008 Grammy winning album One Kind of Favour. Support on all his UK tour dates comes from John Mayall, one of Britain’s most important ambassadors of the blues.

“They call me a legend,” BB King said to the 17,000 capacity audience, “I looked up the word in the dictionary. It means something that stands the test of time. I guess at 83, I have”. The audience got an immediate taste of BB King’s exceptional guitar playing and his four-piece horn section as they belted out free-jazz licks over a pounding shuffle by way of introduction. BB King, greeted by an ovation, sat center-stage and whose vocals remain strong in the upper register. “Let the Good Times Roll” opened the impressive two hour show while “The Thrill Has Gone” closed in true BB King style.
