Fader Fixes a Flat

Guitarist Shaun Hague of Fader (winning band from Gibson a Go-Go) is the new rhythm guitarist for Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Hailing from Boston and currently the youngest member of the band at 21 years old, Shaun began playing at 13. At 17, he won a contest at the House of Blues in Boston and became the "Best Young Blues Guitarist in New England." Two years later, in Los Angeles and on the way to audition for Kenny Wayne, Shaun got a flat tire, but continued to drive eight miles so he would make the audition. Kenny offered him a position with the band and even helped him change the tire before Shaun left to go home!Shaun played an Epiphone Korina Exploreron Kenny Waynes new video for his single Alive, and currently plays a Gibson Custom Shop Explorer, one of 25 that exist in the world.

Red Wings' McCarty Grinding the road

Detroit Red Winger Darren McCarty not only rocks the ice, but is rocking the stage as well. Darren's band, Grinder, is ready to make an impression on the Saliva tour (Nov. 9-11) running through Canada and into New York City with their two new Gibson Custom Grinder SGs. Darren will be touring in support of his first album Gotta Keep Movin'. Grinder's music is featured in the new ESPN Videogame NHL 2K5, and Darren is also slated to provide a voice-over narration for the documentary film Hockey's Greatest Era, due out next year.

Emilio Navaira picks Masterbilt

Grammy winner Emilio Navaira performed for a sold-out show in San Antonio with his Epiphone Masterbilt DR-500M. In Emilio's own words he exclaimed, "Estas guitars typo Masterbilts, llegan nivel de leyenda! Esta es para mi!" Translation: "These Masterbuilt guitars are of legendary caliber, this one is for me!" Emilio gained attention in both the tejano and country music scenes, when he released his most popular and first cross-over country album, Life is Good in 1995. Since then, he's earned not only Grammy Awards, but also numerous Tejano Music Awards for eight years in a row, including Male Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year.

Happy Anniversary, Simon Gallup!

Gibson created a special red Thunderbird bass for Simon Gallup, to celebrate his 25th year as the bassist for The Cure. With a recent nomination for best video for "End of The World" at the MTV Europe Awards, The Cure is still going strong after almost four decades of making music. Simon, of course, will continue to be part of the action, and will now always bring along his new bass, which he "is extremely happy with."

Dropping Daylight Drops In

Since the Minneapolis-based band Dropping Daylight has dropped their debut EP, Back To Nowhere, they have exploded nationally with tracks featured on MTV's "The Real World" and performances with Jurassic 5, Nickelback, Simple Plan, Yellowcard. They're also included in the band lineup for the 2004 Vans Warped Tour. Now signed to Octone Records (Maroon 5, Flyleaf), Dropping Daylight recently released their new EP, The Glenwood Sessions, and are hitting the road again this fall on the Suburban Curse Tour with Lucky Boys Confusion. They will tour with Unwritten Law this winter and look for their "You Hear It First" spotlight on MTV2 in 2005. Here, guitarist Seth Davin (16) rocks his sunburst Les Paul Standard ('60s neck) and his Epiphone Les Paul at the Voodoo Festival in New Orleans. Watch out for DD's full album release late spring/early summer.



Jordan and Ryan and Slingerland

Jordan Plosky, drummer for Ryan Cabrera, loves his Slingerland drum kit. He has been performing on it everywhere, from "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" to Steve Harvey's "Big Time" to the upcoming Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Jordan will also help Ryan kick off his fall tour in Columbus, OH (Nov. 2). And of course, Jordan's Slingerlands will be along for all the action.

GuitarTown

Fourteen of the 10-foot-tall Gibson guitar sculptures arrived into Nashville from Nebraska and made a stop at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum (Oct. 15). The Guitartown project benefits more than 10 non-profit organizations and charities and is administered by the Gibson Foundation, a music industry charity supported by Gibson.

Epi in the Sun

David Brookings, a tour guide for Sun Studios in Memphis, is currently working on his third independently released album with influences of The Beatles, Tom Petty, Weezer and Radiohead. David rocks out an Epiphone Casino and "loves that rich, thick sound it delivers." Moving from his hometown of Richmond, VA, to pursue his love of songwriting and performing, David has toured all over the mid-south and is currently playing all over Memphis, delivering his college pop-rock sound to the masses.


Mellowing Out in Paris

France's alternative rock band Mellow (from left, Patrick Woodcock, Sergio Excorcio, Pierre Begon-Lours) visited the Gibson/Baldwin Showroom in Paris to collect a Gibson Flying V, Firebird Studio and a Les Paul Faded Double Cutaway as they prepare to record their fourth album on the Atmospheriques Label. The new disc is set for release next spring in France, Japan and the UK.

Wy's True Love

Country music icon Wynonna Judd snuggled up to her L5-CES and her L-5 Acoustic at rehearsals for her nationwide tour, called "Her Story: Scenes From a Lifetime." The tour, a celebration of Wy's 20 years in the music business, kicked off last week in Washington, DC. Each show features 27 songs in two hours and takes audiences through Wynonna's life, from childhood to adulthood, with a set full of gospel, blues and country music. Proceeds from the tour will go to benefit YouthAIDS.

A Tiger in Beverly Hills

Latin sensation Aniceto Molina - aka "El Tigre Sabanero" (The Tiger from the Sabana, Columbia) - was made an official Gibson endorsee at the Gibson/Baldwin Showroom in Beverly Hills (Oct. 20). To commemorate the occasion, Gibson presented Aniceto with a Les Paul Standard. Aniceto was honored on Oct. 21 at the Universal Amphitheater with the Gloria de la Musica (Glory of the Music) award in conjunction with "El Premio de la Gente," scheduled to air on the Telemundo network later this month. Aniceto said, "I'm thrilled to be apart of the Gibson family, and will cherish this guitar forever."
