| | A Flying V birthday for School of Rock guitarist.
Gibson USA wished "happy birthday" to Joey Gaydos, aka Zach the guitarslinger kid in School of Rock, with a new V-Factor. It's the same model (based on Gibson's famous 1967 Flying V) that Joey played in the film. According to Joey's dad, Joe Gaydos Sr., the 13-year-old opened his present and just smiled. "You couldn't have smacked the smile off his face," Joe Sr. said. Joey broke in his new axe by ripping into the School of Rock song, followed by a few blues licks and then the riff from Led Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times."
Joey's been a Gibson guy "ever since he could pick one up," explained Joe Sr., who owns three '59 Les Paul Juniors, an ES-335 and a Firebird. Joey already had an SG and a Les Paul Goldtop, but the Flying V tops them all. "To me, the Flying V is the ultimate hard rockin' machine," he says.
Joey started sitting in with his dad's bands at gigs around the Detroit area when he was just 10 years old, but now their roles are reversing. Joey's in the pre-production stages of a solo CD, and he's relegated his father to bass duties in the studio band.

| | Lucero rules Fiesta Broadway with Chet Studio CEC
Mexican pop star and soap opera actress Lucero presided as Reyna (Queen) of Fiesta Broadway, with a new Gibson Chet Atkins Studio CEC at her side. Gibson was the official guitar of the Fiesta, which is the largest Hispanic event in the U.S. Last week's celebration (Apr. 25), the 14th annual, drew over 500,000 people to downtown Los Angeles. It was taped by NBC, which recently acquired the Spanish-language Telemondo network, to be included in its Cinco de Mayo (May 5) programming. Gibson Montana presented Reyna with one of the newly designed Chet Studio CEC models, an electric classical featuring a unique hollow body design with rear soundhole for enhanced acoustic performance.
