Santana and McLaughlin make Musique with Gibsons

Gibson was there in France, on the set of "Traffic Musique," providing the guitars for two legendary players, Carlos Santana and John McLaughlin. Santana played a Les Paul Custom and McLaughlin played an ES-175, while a Dove Artist Cutaway was standing by for any acoustic needs. "Traffic Musique," a monthly show, is France's most important live music TV show.

MASE, LC-1, MTV, VH1, NYC

Translated, that means recording artist MASE stopped by the MTV Networks in New York to sign an LC-1 Cascade for MTV Radio & VH1 Radio to auction off for VH1 Save the Music later this year. Rapper MASE has collaborated with Kanye West for a remix of Kanye's "Jesus Walks," which is due out soon, and is rumored to be joining Kanye on Usher's "Truth" tour this summer. Say anything but "cheese"

Facial twists and contortions during fits of musical ecstasy make guitarists as fun to watch as they are to hear. Now Guitar XPress is elevating this endearing element of guitar playing to a competitive level with a national contest to see who has the best "Guitar Face." A celebrity panel, including Dick Dale, Roger McGuinn and J.J. French of Twisted Sister, will judge the entries and award the grand prize of a Les Paul Black Beauty and an Epiphone hard case.

Don't Knock the Rock

Gibson gets ready for its closeup Aug 12-15 by celebrating the historical rock and roll cinematic roots of Hollywood with the 2nd Annual Don't Knock the Rock, a film and music event held at the Arclight Theatre on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. The festival, which combines film screenings of classic and new films, will embody a rock and roll spirit with musical performances by PJ Harvey and other artists. This year's festival will also honor the '57 Les Paul Jr. and its contributions to rock and roll with clips of major artist performances.

Also included in the Don't Knock the Rock festival is The Minor Threat Teen Band Contest, a battle of the bands for teenage rockers. Epiphone will be awarding two acoustic guitars at the contest, which supports young people in music.
