Les Paul BFG Player

Co-creator of the Adult Swim series Metalocalypse

“I used the BFG to record a song in the season finale episode of Metalocalypse, ‘Go Into the Water.’ It recorded great! It's an incredibly versatile guitar. I used it to record super high-gain metal riffs, tuned waaaaay down to C, and then over dubbed three-part harmonies with a cocked wah, Brian May-style thing on top of it. It sounded awesome. I'm planning on using it for lead guitar overdubs, when I get to them, for the Dethklock record, which I'm currently in the studio recording.

I like that that the BFG is not pretty. Why does everything have to be pretty?  I feel like I could drop this guitar and it would play fine. Having said that, I hope that I don't drop it. But I like the unfinished feel of the whole thing. And I love the P-90 in the neck. It's really cool to have a single coil in the neck position on a Les Paul. I can play in the neck pickup position for hours. It really has great tone that's distinctive but still versatile.

I've been playing a great deal of metal lately, as it is now a full-time job for me. Some guitars aren't up to that challenge. My main metal guitar is an Explorer, but I've been substituting the BFG and it's really been kicking ass! Like I said, I tune really low these days, and play really loud with high gain, and sometimes it's hard to get real "tone" happening, but the tone of the BFG really comes through. And I should say that it shreds rather nicely—if you're into speed licks and shreddy stuff it kicks ass pretty hardcore.”
