The Gibson/Baldwin Showroom in NYC hosted an exclusive cocktail reception (March 21) in honor of the Comets. The invite only event, hosted by Martin Lewis, celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the film The Blackboard Jungle, featuring Bill Haley and the Comets’ chart-topping single “Rock Around the Clock.”

The Showroom was full of celebrities, including Ted Allen from Bravo's hit TV series "Queer Eye For the Straight Guy," as well as several musical guests who were entertained with an intimate concert by the Comets. The group played all of their classic hits like “Rock Around the Clock,” “Shake, Rattle and Roll,” “See You Later Alligator” and “Mambo Rock.” A drawing for a Les Paul Goldtop, autographed by the Comets, was also held, and the guitar was given away to lucky winner Thorry Koren.

One of America’s original rock and roll bands, The Comets are made up of members Johnny Grande (keys), Dick Richards (age 75 - drums), Franny Beecher (age 81 - guitar), Joey Ambrose (age 83 - sax), and Marshall Lytle (age 71 - bass). Introducing rock and roll to much of the country, the Comets’ 1953 album Crazy, Man Crazy was the very first rock album to ever make the pop charts.
