Singer and television personality Joey Fatone joins the Honorable Mayor Buddy Dyer of Orlando In Supporting Orlando GuitarTown Project Presented by Gibson Guitar
Gibson Guitar announced several enhancements to the Orlando GuitarTown project including celebrity endorsements and visual artists who will participate in the public arts project. Joey Fatone, best known as a member of the pop group N'Sync and as a popular television personality has joined the Orlando GuitarTown project as the Celebrity Co-Chairperson (photo attached). The singer and actor recently appeared on the ABC hit reality show "Dancing with the Stars" and is also host of the American and Australian versions of The Singing Bee aired on the NBC Television Network. Based in Orlando, Fatone has been one of the most sought after performers since his rise to fame in the mid 90s as one of five young singers of the popular N'Sync boy band. As Co-Chairperson of the Orlando GuitarTown project presented by Gibson Guitar, Fatone will help raise funds for four Orlando based charities and provide creative input to the project during its launch and gala events to follow its display throughout the city of Orlando, Florida.
“The Gibson GuitarTown program will further Orlando as one of the great cultural hubs in the nation and yes, internationally,” said the Honorable Mayor of Orlando, Buddy Dyer.
The project's Steering Committee, comprised of leaders throughout the community in various business sectors also announced the four charities who will serve as beneficiaries of Orlando GuitarTown. The project which will give the city an extraordinary display of ten-foot Gibson guitar sculptures and regular sizes showcase guitars designed by visual artists will end with a gala auction hosted by world renowned Juliens Auctions (www.juliensauctions.com) with all proceeds benefitting the local charities named. The four beneficiaries include The Downtown Arts District, Parramore Kids Zone, the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness and Page 15. The Downtown Arts District, Inc. (DAD) was created in 2000 to promote art, local artists and the economic development of the downtown area. DAD's mission is to create a healthy, vibrant, sustainable world-class arts district (www.dadorlando.com). The Central Florida Commission on Homelessness was created in February 2008 to enact initiatives proposed in Ten2End, a 10-year plan to end homelessness in the region (http://www.orangecountyfl.net/cms/CommissiononHomelessness/default/htm). Parramore Kidz Zone was modeled after the well-known Harlem Children's Zone in New York City. PKZ aims to lower teenage pregnancy, juvenile crime and child abuse rates among children in the neighborhood and improve their school performance (http://www.cityoforlando.net/executive/children/pkx.htm). And Page 15 Charity is committed to providing supplemental reading and writing education for all students living and attending public schools in Orlando, Florida. The free after-school tutoring and creative workshops are dedicated to enhancing communication skills, encouraging personal creativity, and inspiring a lifelong passion for the language of the arts. These 501(c)(3) organizations will share in the proceeds raised by the project and be awarded a check by the Gibson Foundation following the gala auction event in early 2009.

After a record breaking amount of visual artist entries were received for participation in the Orlando GutiarTown project, members of the Steering Committee gathered at the Gibson Guitar Orlando Entertainment Relations Showroom in downtown Orlando last week to vote on the 70 artists who will be named official visual artists of the Orlando GuitarTown project. Each visual artist chosen will given the opportunity to paint and design a Gibson 10-foot tall sculpture which will exhibit throughout the city or a regular size showcase Epiphone Casino guitar. Visual artists were voted on after they submitted an official application and a design or pattern indicating their idea for the artwork to present on the guitar. Those entries received by the deadline were then anonymously presented to the Steering Committee and out of all entries the final 70 were chosen. The official visual artists chosen for the project are listed below and will share in unprecedented publicity and promotion throughout the project's duration.

Orlando GuitarTown has officially launched and the Honorable Mayor Buddy Dyer autographed the very first ten-foot Gibson guitar sculpture designed and painted by local artist "Tattooed Bill" in front of the City Arts Factory. Mayor Dyer's session officially launched the project and will serve as a symbol of the citywide support which has been overwhelmingly received since the project was announced.
