Nic Adams

Nic Adams

Born in 1970 in Newport Beach and raised in Huntington Beach, Nic Adams describes his parents as typical California hippie/ surfers of the era. As early as 12 years old Nic began venturing to Hollywood to see bands such as X, The Ramones, Black Flag, Bad Religion, The Exploited, and countless others in the early 80’s music scene around LA. Shortly after this Nic borrowed a camera from his girlfriend and has made creating images his passion ever since. Studying Ecology at Orange Coast College he took a documentary photo class as an elective. He would never have guessed that one class would alter the course of his destiny so dramatically. He went to school in Costa Rica for a year and shot photos during that time while refining his eye for documenting his world.

Shooting bands upon his return like No Doubt, Fugazi, Henry Rollins, and Michael Franti at local universities when they did free shows along with friends that were Skateboarders, Snowboarders, and Surfers, he quickly became recognized for his unique insiders perspective. The first few submissions to Thrasher Magazine, Transworld Publications, and Snowboarder all resulted in published images. He decided it was a calling and hit the road traveling extensively throughout North America, Europe, and New Zealand the next 5 years. In Paris he met Stephane Herve and a friends party and he recruited Nic to join him at Edicions Du Bruit as they were forming Rage Magazine.

Nic based himself in Paris during the rest of the 90’s shooting bands and fashion. He decided to take a break and study French and French Art and Culture at the Sorbonne Universite, Paris V. Skilled in Photoshop, he working closely with art directors and editors in the magazines in Europe. He also began writing feature articles and reviews. He interviewed Artist Mike Parillo for Blast magazine and they began collaborating on art and design projects with Dan Peterka for various clients including, Burton Snowboards, TJ Maxx, and others.

Upon relocating to Los Angeles he worked in the film industry assisting the director on the film PUPS while he kept shooting and creating artwork as a freelancer. He currently is working on finishing up a series of artwork created from black and white Polaroid negatives shot on a Polaroid Land Camera 220.
