Pickups Models
The guitars are equipped with a calibrated set of 490R and 490T humbuckers from Gibson's Modern Classics series. This set offers excellent output balance between positions, with a slightly over-wound bridge pickup for more grind from that position, and both are wax potted to combat microphonic squeal at high volumes. Magnet Material
The 490R and 490T are both made with Alnico II magnets, just like Gibson's hallowed "PAF" humbuckers of the late '50s. Magnet Material
Tonal Characteristics
The 490R in the neck position yields all the warmth and singing vocal tones that the King of the Blues is known for, with enough crispness and clarity to enable individual notes to shine out even amid chords. The 490T in the bridge position provides more bite and growl when required, yet is still sweet and rich enough for classic blues leads.
The Gem Series B.B. King Lucille uses independent Volume controls for each pickup, which consists of a quality 500K linear potentiometer for a smooth, natural volume roll-off. The guitar also carries two independent Tone controls, each consisting of a 500K non-linear potentiometer and a .022uF tone capacitor for a smooth, natural transition from bright to warm as the control is rolled counter-clockwise.
