Neck and Headstock

Neck Species
The neck of the John Lennon 70th Anniversary Casinos is constructed from one solid piece of premium mahogany, the most traditional wood for Gibson and Epiphone electric guitar necks, and an original feature of the 1965 Casino. Neck Species
Neck Profile
The neck on the John Lennon 70th Anniversary Casinos is carved to a fast and comfortable SlimTaper™ profile. Neck Profile
Tonal Characteristics
The glued-in mahogany neck contributes added depth, complexity and sustain to the guitar.
Epiphone uses what is known as the Mortis & Tenon joint to bind neck to body so that the two pieces form one solid unit. This glued-in neck joint, placed accurately at the 16th fret on this model (rather than the 17th, as on some other reproductions) has been recognized by luthiers for centuries as a superior method for attaching guitar necks and bodies. Headstock Shape and Angle
The John Lennon 70th Anniversary Casinos headstock is carved to the traditional sloped dovewing shape recognizable on countless classic Epiphone guitars over the course of more the past century. It is carefully angled at the 17 degrees, which increases pressure on the strings and helps them stay in the nut slots, while retaining crucial strength at where the headstock meets the neck. An increase in string pressure also means there is no loss of string vibration between the nut and the tuners, which equals better sustain.
Truss Rod
Epiphone’s traditional truss rod, found in most of our guitars, is highly responsive to the individual adjustments you’ll want to make to personalize and optimize string action and sustain. Truss Rod
A pearloid Epiphone logo is inlaid across the top of the headstock face of the John Lennon 70th Anniversary Casino. Logo
Fingerboard and Nut

Fingerboard Species
The John Lennon 70th Anniversary Casinos carries a rosewood fingerboard, the traditional fingerboard of countless great archtop electrics. Rosewood is both hardwearing and sonically superlative, adding sweetness and depth to the guitar’s overall sound. Fingerboard Species
The John Lennon 70th Anniversary Casino sports 22 medium-jumbo frets, all immaculately dressed and polished. Frets
Tonal Characteristics
Rosewood fingerboards are known for their rich, round tone, which enhances the overall depth of the tone of the guitar as a whole.
The John Lennon 70th Anniversary Casinos fingerboard carries pearloid parallelogram inlays like those of the original 1965 Casino upon which this model is based. The 12th fret marker is inlaid with “Oct 9, 1940” commemorating John Lennon’s date of birth. Inlays
Nut Width
The width of the nut on the John Lennon 70th Anniversary Casinos is approximately 1.62”.
The 12” radius of the John Lennon 70th Anniversary Casinos fingerboard provides smooth note bending capabilities and eliminates “dead” or “choked out” notes, common occurrences on fingerboards with lesser radiuses.
