All of the members of Aerosmith, except for one, have been at work on a new album since last weekend, according to Singer Steven Tyler, guitarist Brad Whitford, bassist Tom Hamilton and drummer Joey Kramer have been at it since January 22, without the assistance of guitarist Joe Perry.

Long-running Aerosmith collaborator Marti Frederiksen has been working with the guys on the material at his studio in Monrovia, California. Frederiksen said that Perry has been unable to join them because of a previous, unspecified commitment.

“It’s been really good, great,” Frederiksen said. “We’ve been playing songs, putting together riffs, having fun, laughing and working from noon to 11 [p.m.] We’re just digging in, man.”

The new Aerosmith record will be the band’s first album of original material since 2001’s Just Push Play.
