Slash To Play at Jimi Hendrix Stamp Show
Jimi Hendrix is being honored with a new “Forever” stamp by the U.S. Postal Service.
It’s the latest installment of the U.S.P.S’s Music Icons series. The stamps come in sheets of 16. The stamp sheet, designed to resemble a vintage 45 rpm record sleeve, features a painting of Hendrix’s face surrounded by colorful swirls and small icons that reference song lyrics or aspects of Hendrix’s life.
The unveiling of the Hendrix stamps will take place March 13, at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Conference at Butler Park in Austin, Texas. Slash will headline a free show. Others appearing are the MC5’s Wayne Kramer, Dave and Phil Alvin of the Blasters and Gibson signature player Rusty Anderson of Paul McCartney’s band.
The 2014 Music Icons series will debut a Janis Joplin stamp later this year. In 2015, James Brown is to get his own stamp.
The Postal Service launched the Music Icons series in 2013 with stamps recognizing Ray Charles, Johnny Cash and Lydia Mendoza. To pre-order the Jimi Hendrix stamps, go to USPS.com.
