Gibson and Randy Travis Give Christmas Gift to Texan Police Officer
Randy Travis is still working on regaining his speech after a stroke, but the Country Music Hall of Fame star has clearly shown his Christmas spirit and sense of community is thriving.
Over the Christmas period, Travis and his wife Mary found out that a local police officer near their North Texas home had lost everything in a house fire. The couple had earlier met the Gainesville, Texas, officer, Keith Bartlett, when Bartlett helped sort out a robbery that occurred at the Travises' own home.
On hearing of Bartlett’s circumstances, the Travises donated some furniture to the Bartlett family. And they also phoned Gibson, who replaced an acoustic guitar the officer had lost in the blaze. The meet-up was reported on TV channel NBC5.
“When we saw (the news), it broke my heart,” Mary Travis told NBC5. “Since his [Randy’s] stroke, I just know how important music is, what therapy it is, especially at a time like this."
When Bartlett was presented with the guitar, he exclaimed, "Oh, you didn't," as he teared up and sat down to play.
