Metallica frontman James Hetfield spent some time this month with the police and fire departments in his hometown of Vail, Colorado, in conjunction with the group's All Within My Hands charity foundation. Call it Metallica's way of spreading Christmas cheer.

Hetfield passed out gift cards for Starbucks, which joined forces with All Within My Hands for the "Give Good" campaign.

The All Within My Hands Foundation is "dedicated to creating sustainable communities by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services," according to the organization's official website.

The foundation kicked off in February of this year with the hope of "making the world a better place through local community support."

All Within My Hands Tweeted out a pair of photos showing Hetfield with the fire and police departments, and it's pretty cool to see him smiling with some of his local heroes.

In other news, Metallica is taking time off for the holidays, and the metal guys will continue on their European tour to promote their latest studio album, Hardwired...to Self-Destruct, in February.
