Jerry Lee Lewis' Bass Player Shot Dead
B.B. Cunningham, the seventy-year old bass player of Jerry Lee Lewis touring band was shot and killed on October 14. Cunningham worked as a security guard for an apartment complex in Memphis, and went to investigate what sounded like a gunshot nearby. An unidentified 16 year old was also found dead at the scene, and according to witnesses multiple gunshots were heard.
According to Rolling Stone Cunningham moved to Los Angeles in the seventies where he worked at Independent Recorders as chief engineer. The job saw Cunningham working with such legends as Billy Joel and Elton John. Cunningham had been playing in Lewis' band since 1997. In 2003 he released a solo album entitled Hangin' In.
