Foo Fighters returned to live shows in California on December 9 by playing a surprise comeback gig in a pizza restaurant.

Dave Grohl’s band has been out of the spotlight since 2012, but returned by playing at the Redballs’ Rock & Roll Pizza joint in Moorpark, California for a crowd of just 200 people.

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins had been booked to perform at the venue with his side-project band Chevy Metal. Fans got to see a full two-and-a-half hour set from the Foo Fighters instead.

Here’s fan footage, with Dave Grohl playing his Pelham Blue Gibson signature model.

Foo Fighters play two gig gigs in Mexico City, 11 and 13 December. Dave Grohl says the next Foo Fighters album is written, but yet to be recorded. It is scheduled for 2014.
