Jason Hook by Anne Erickson

In an exhaustive interview with MusicRadar.com, Jason Hook has talked about the 11 guitar albums that made him the player he is. In a nutshell, Hook says, “Cool guitar parts over fantastic songs – that’s the best of both worlds.”

He adds, “People have said to me, ‘Oh, so-and-so is an awesome player, you gotta check this record out,’ but the songs were such stinkballs that I just couldn’t jam to them. And really, why wouldn’t you have killer songs? Give me the whole package.”

So, does Hook’s list have the whole package in your view? His Top 11 albums are:

1. Van Halen – Fair Warning
2. Deep Purple – Made In Japan
3. Pantera – Vulgar Display of Power
4. Ozzy Osbourne – No More Tears
5. Journey – Escape
6. Yngwie Malmsteen – Rising Force
7. KISS – Alive!
8. Dokken – Tooth and Nail
9. Rage Against the Machine – Rage Against the Machine
10. Mr. Big – Lean Into It
11. Jason Hook – Safety Dunce. “I’m picking my solo record, so suck on that, everybody!” he says.
