Elton John

Elton John has become the latest major artist to announce his retirement from touring. The good news for fans is that, prior to leaving the road, the veteran singer-songwriter will mount an ambitious three-year farewell tour.

“My priorities have changed in life," John said yesterday (Jan. 24) in a press conference, citing family as his main focus. “I thought the time is right to say thank you to all of my fans and then to say goodbye. That doesn't mean I won't be creative, but I'm not going to travel anymore."

Before giving up touring, John will embark on a “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” trek that will take him around the world before wrapping up in 2021. The 300-date tour kicks off on Sept 8, with a series of North American shows that will touch down in more than 50 cities.

“I don’t want to want to go out with a whimper -- I want to go out with a big bang,” said John. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer added that, after a long break following the tour, he will continue to write and record.
