Billie Joe Armstrong by Anne Erickson

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Rancid’s Tim Armstrong obviously share the same last name, and now, the two have an appropriately titled band. The new group is called – what else? – Armstrongs.

Along with Billie Joe and Tim in Armstrongs are Billie Joe’s son Joey, who performs in the group SWMRS, and Tim’s nephew, Rey Armstrong.

The band’s debut song, "If There Was Ever a Time," arrived last week. Proceeds from sales of the track will go to help fund the venue 924 Gilman in Berkeley, California, where a young Green Day performed when they were first breaking out.

"Anything that has to do with working with Gilman and Tim and Joey Armstrong, consider me in," Billie Joe said in a statement. "This is about our home and family. Viva Armstrong!"

"If There Was Ever a Time" will get its official release on July 28. The song also appears in the documentary Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk. The members of Green Day produced Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk.
