Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian has confirmed what fans have been suspecting since about February: that the thrash legends' new lead guitarist is Shadows Fall's Jon Donais.
Donais has been filling in with the band since earlier this year when Rob Caggiano announced his departure, seeking a fresh start and new musical adventures.
Caggiano went on to join Volbeat, and Donais joined Anthrax on the road. Speaking to TeamRock Radio’s The Metal Hammer Show, Ian said: "Jon’s been with us since February and I think I can safely say he’s passed the audition. I know we haven’t said anything official yet, but in my mind he’s the guy. As far as I’m concerned Jon is the guitar player in Anthrax."
Anthrax have spent much of the year without drummer Charlie Benante, who has been out while he recovers from surgery for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. John Dette has been behind the kit for most of the band's 2013 shows (including the Australian Soundwave tour where Dette pulled double duty in Anthrax and Slayer), but Benante is due back on September 13 when Anthrax opens for Iron Maiden in San Bernadino, California.
