Talking Heads, David Bowie Works Preserved in National Recording Registry

On an annual basis, the U.S. Library of Congress’s National Recording Registry selects 25 recordings that are deemed “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant,” with the further stipulation that the recording must be at least 10 years old. Albums chosen this year include Talking Heads’ Remain in Light, Marty Robbins’ Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs, and David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

As reported by Rolling Stone, the console had been housed at London’s Abbey Road Studios for 12 years, beginning in 1971. During that time, the 16-track, 40-channel console was also used on recordings by Paul McCartney and Wings, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Kate Bush and The Cure.
