World’s Greatest Music Collection For Sale on eBay

A music collection said to be the largest in the world is currently for sale on eBay, with an opening, minimum bid of $3 million. It took Paul Mawhinney, publisher of the Music Master record price guide, 50-plus years to compile a collection that includes more than six million songs on three millions records and 300,000 compact discs. He hopes to sell it all to the highest bidder, and he believes whoever buys it is getting a bargain.

Billboard announced yesterday that U2 are holed up in a Dublin studio with venerable producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois. They've already recorded in Morocco and France and word is that there's so much material that U2's next album may be a double. Read more.

Radiohead parted ways with EMI long ago, but with song rights still in the record label's contract, sources report that EMI is plotting a Radiohead Greatest Hits collection. Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien recently told a Canadian news program, "They’re [EMI] planning to do a greatest hits for April or May to coincide with our tour, that’s an interesting one. We won’t be doing any promotion for that, obviously.” Last year, EMI debuted a Radiohead box set.

In his video acceptance, he honored his fans right back, thanking them for making Thriller the world's best selling album.
