Courtney Love Sounds Off on Rumors about New Album, Linda Perry

Courtney Love has taken to her MySpace blog to contend with rumors that she’s scrapping her new solo album, Nobody’s Daughter, which she’s worked on for almost three years with the help of 4 Non Blondes singer-turned-producer Linda Perry. “No ‘scrapping’ is going on,” Love writes, “simply a few retakes?especially since all those recordings were leaked to the Net … Don’t assume you know any songs on this album. Some may sound somewhat familiar or even have the same titles and arrangements … A few are just precious diamonds I wouldn’t touch, but there’s tons of new ones which you have not a clue about.”

With the Red Hot Chili Peppers officially "disbanded" for a year, Anthony Kiedis has taken on a new role as festival curator for Pittsburgh's New American Music Festival August 8 - 9. Besides spilling his guts about the upcoming festival Kiedis revealed the status of his superstar band, telling rollingstone.com, "We're disbanded for the moment ... Cooler heads prevailed and the discussion at the end of our last tour was, 'Let's not do anything Red Hot Chili Peppers-related for a minimum of one year, and just live and breathe and eat and learn new things.' I was about to have a brand new son. Flea is very inspired to re-up his musical direction and ability and skill and he wants to learn new stuff. John [Frusciante] has been firing away on his own, making different solo projects. And Chad [Smith] joined a jazz band and went to Japan.

The Steve Miller Band’s frontman and namesake heartily endorses the group’s first-ever official DVD, Live From Chicago. Centered around high-definition live footage from a July 2007 concert at the Ravinia Amphiteater, the three-disc set features what Miller considers vastly improved versions of the classic rock songs that he’s been performing for the past 40 years. “I really do prefer the new versions rather than the old,” he says.

Brian Wilson to Issue New Album on Capitol

Brilliant pop composer Brian Wilson announced today that he's returning to Capitol Records/EMI, the longtime record label of his former group the Beach Boys. His new album, That Lucky Old Sun , is due out September 2. A theme album that takes inspiration from Wilson's beachy California upbringing,That Lucky Old Sun is "[comprised of a] series of narratives with the sun, voiced by Wilson, as the narrator of a series of snapshots of life in Southern California," reports the Los Angeles Times. Wilson himself describes the album as an "interwoven series of 'rounds' with interspersed spoken word."

Kid Rock, Peter Wolf, Lynyrd Skynyrd Rock the Garden in NYC!

Kid Rock and his Rock 'N' Roll Revival Tour, which includes special guests Peter Wolf, Reverend Run, and legendary Souther rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd, headed into Yankee territory last night as the roving rock and roll spectacle took over New York City's Madison Square Garden. Hard to believe, but it was Skynyrd's first time ever playing the Garden in their nearly 40-year career, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famers didn't disappoint, playing an 80-minute set layered with many of their greatest hits, including "Sweet Home Alabama," "That Smell," "Simple Man," and their epic final song "Freebird." Singer Johnny Van Zandt even dueted via video with his deceased brother Ronnie on the encore song "Travelin' Man."

Each week British humor website B3ta issues an image challenge, asking visitors to manipulate photos to fit a specified theme, like "If Band Names Were Taken Literally" or "Album Covers Gone Wrong." We just discovered a really great one (the challenge is from awhile ago, but hey it's news to us!)—"Extending Album Art"—wherein "artists" of varying talent have stretched the boundaries of famous albums covers to hilarious and sometimes creepy results. Stipe says,"In the '80s I went through every kind of awful—I don’t want to sound hyperbolic or self-pitying—but it was awful. And I went through it alone. Pearl Jam at Work on Material for New Album

Billboard reports that during a conference call regarding Pearl Jam's headlining spot at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festiva on June 14, founding member Mike McCready revealed that the band is at work on new material with producer Brendan O'Brien. "We've had one session of writing and it has yielded about five ideas so far," McCready said. "Some of it's kind of poppy and some of it's a little hard. We want it to grow up a little bit. We have to revisit it a few times."
