With two Incubus members heading off to school and another awaiting fatherhood, lead singer Brandon Boyd tells Billboard.com that Incubus have plans to lay low for a couple years. "I'm of the mind to say it wouldn't be a bad thing to disappear for a year or two years," Boyd says. "A lot of people would say culture moves too fast and you need to remind people, but I would argue there's not any rush. Maybe they'll be a sex scandal or an arrest or something to keep us in the news." It seems Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger will stay busy with solo work in the interim. On August 23, he'll introduce an orchestral piece that he wrote at Royce Hall on the UCLA campus.

The Fabled City will be the follow-up to the record Morello released under the name The Nightwatchman in 2007, One Man Revolution. He now goes by the moniker Tom Morello: The Nightwatchman. Both Beck and the Verve are building enthusiasm for their forthcoming albums by streaming songs on their respective MySpaces. From Beck's Modern Guilt, due in record stores on July 9, you can hear abbreviated versions of the groovy, atmospheric "Chemtrails" and "Orphans," and the barelling surf rock swell of "Gamma Rays." These tracks indicate that the album's likely got one foot planted in the 1970s. Nice! Modern Guilt is Beck's first partnership with producer Danger Mouse and features a seductive Cat Power vocal.

It was slightly unconventional for Journey to recruit unknown Filipino singer Arnela Pineda last year to front the band. Sure, Pineda was in a Journey cover band back home and he had some pretty convincing performance clips on YouTube, but that didn't stop some industry types from scoffing. Now American Idol judge—oh and he's a producer, too—Randy Jackson is weighing in on Pineda.

Yesterday rollingstone.com reported on their phone call with onetime Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach, who is a friend and collaborator of Axl Rose. The mag asked Bach about the nine tracks leaked last week that were reportedly from Guns N' Roses' years-in-the-making album Chinese Democracy. Rolling Stone says we'll have to wait for their mag to come out to read Bach's reply, but it seems he gave them plenty of extra Axl-related material to work with in the meantime.

Her publisher calls it “an engaging literary memoir that will resonate with anyone who’s lost faith in a dream.” The book chronicles Hatfield’s rise to fame during the early ’90s, when just out of her Boston high school, she joined indie rock band the Blake Babies before becoming a hit solo artist.

Staind's new album The Illusion of Progress hits stores on August 9, but first they'll debut "Believe," the LP's first single, which will get radio airplay and become available on iTunes beginning tomorrow, June 24. The Illusion of Progress will be Staind's fourth album. The alternative metal group, who have sold more than 15 million albums to date, recorded the new album with producer Johnny K, the man behind 3 Doors Down, Disturbed, Plain White T's, and Finger Eleven. "We went into the studio with the mindset of making our heaviest record yet, but the record that came out has flavors of Pink Floyd and straight-up blues," frontman Aaron Lewis says. "We didn’t use the same rigs that we use on-stage; we used all vintage guitars and amps, and I’m pretty psyched about it! The songs are pretty timeless in their texture." Beginning July 4 in Muskegon, Michigan, Staind will tour with 3 Doors Down and Nickelback, respectively, throughout the summer and fall.
