I have recently completed my “Slide Guitar Summit” album, featuring terrific duets with other slide players such as: Johnny Winter, David Lindley, Sonny Landreth, Rick Vito, Lee Roy Parnell, Greg Martin, Cindy Cashdollar, Jack Pearson And Jimmy Vivino. The rewards of doing such a wonderful project, with such great players and cohorts is unimaginable and limitless and it is also going to have a documentary film not only on the “making of” the album, but also containing nice footage about the history of slide guitar, and me doing some teaching on it as well.
The sessions had started up in CT., with JOHNNY WINTER kicking it off, and within another week I was already cutting tracks with SONNY LANDRETH and CINDY CASHDOLLAR in NY! I then had the great honor and pleasure of recording a live duet with the great DAVID LINDLEY at the famed Iridium Club in NYC, the home of Les Paul and the Les Paul Trio! The I did some Delta Blues slide with none other than JIMMY VIVINO, and sure enough after that went down to Nashville for some amazing sessions with JACK PEARSON, LEE ROY PARNELL, RICK VITO and GREG MARTIN, of The Kentucky Headhunters!
So many good times and such comradery down in Nashville really made for the kinds of stuff that dreams are made of, and with it being produced by my old buddy, TOM HAMBRIDGE, who is also an incredible drummer, we really had ourselves some totally “hot” tracks! Add to this that we had some other great studio players such as TOMMY MACDONALD on bass, and KEVIN MCKENDREE on piano and it’s a no-miss kind of situation!
As I successfully did for the album itself, we are also doing a “Kickstarter” to raise money for the making of the film, and have been looking for backers worldwide! Kickstarter has been a great avenue for raising money for independent projects such as this, and we certainly hope it works as well as it did for my album itself!
There have even been other Kickstarter-like websites cropping up lately such as “Indie-go-go” and for many folks these days it’s been a great way to go to raise some funds for projects near and dear to your hearts. Maybe some of you have already used these websites to help you along, and if not, I certainly recommend looking into it!
So, I can’t wait to release this CD/DVD project, and even have a big “gala” event so we can launch the movie and the album at the same time, with a huge concert!!!!! Maybe the “Slide Guitar Summit” will be coming to your town!
