Well, last week we all gathered to celebrate yet again, the 2nd release of the Les Paul Tribute album, only this time on VINYL! It was a star-studded event, and me and my daughter Lexie got to play and sing our tracks from the album, “Vaya Con Dios” and “Mr. Sandman.”
One of the best parts of the whole night was how many impromptu jam sessions broke out, and I found myself onstage with countless other great players, trading licks and trading styles!
My “slide guitar radar” has really been on high alert now that I have been working feverishly on my Slide Summit album and film, and out of the clear blue sky, who ends up playing at that gig but the one and only Johnny Farina of Santo and Johnny and “Sleepwalk” fame! As soon as I saw him and watched him play that classic tune, I knew I just had to meet him, and that I had to have him on the Slide Summit as well! So, we got to talking, I also explained that I had recorded “Sleepwalk” on my Toolin’Around Woodstock album with Levon Helm and sent him an email containing that song. He told me that he loved my version of his song, which totally had me overjoyed, and that he can’t wait to play on this project!

So it was truly one very productive night, and getting a chance to meet and play with some new folks really meant a lot to me, as I played with some old standbys such as the wonderful Lou Pallo, Nicki Parrot, John Colliani and Anton Fig on drums. The wonderful Frank Vignola was also a pleasant surprise, and I got to do some fun jamming with him onstage, and some other great vocalists from the album were there too such as Blondie Chaplin and Eddie Brigati of The Rascals!
I suppose the next release party of major proportions for me will be when I release the film and cd for my Slide Summit project, and we can have some of the star-studded lineup from that album also make some guest appearances onstage with me! Kind of hard to go wrong with a group of players like Johnny Winter, Sonny Landreth, Cindy Cashdollar, Jimmy Vivino, David Lindley, Johnny Farina, Lee Roy Parnell, Jack Pearson, Greg Martin and Rick Vito, that’s for sure! Stay tuned...
