Jimi Hendrix, Hey Joe b/w Stone Free
This seven-inch vinyl packs the original 1966 mono mixes created for the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s debut U.K. single. The vinyl record hasn’t been available since its initial release. A choice pick for the Hendrix fan on your list.
Imagine Dragons, Live at Independent Records
Imagine Dragons are one of the hottest bands on the alternative music scene these days, thanks to their catchy, anthemic hit “Radioactive.” The guys release a special live CD this Record Store Day, offering their full in-store performance at Independent Records in Colorado.
Linkin Park, Hybrid Theory
Hybrid Theory is the album that started it all for Linkin Park. Now, the seminal release will be back on vinyl via a Record Store Day exclusive. The set will come on 12-inch regular weight colored vinyl in a gatefold jacket, plus include a lyric insert and bonus 10-inch single with the tracks “One Step Closer” and “My December.” This is the first time the LP has been available in more than a decade.
Paul McCartney & Wings, Maybe I’m Amazed
This live version of “Maybe I’m Amazed” was originally serviced as a radio-only promotional 12-inch vinyl single back in 1976 to herald the release of “Wings Over America.” The release’s A-side features “Maybe I’m Amazed” in both a short version (mono) and album version (mono), while the B-side features the same versions in stereo.
Willie Nelson, Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die and Crazy: The Demo Sessions
Willie Nelson has not one by two exclusives hitting stores on Record Store Day. The first is a 7-inch green colored vinyl featuring the tracks “Roll Me Up” and “Smoke Me When I Die,” and the set features guest vocals by Snoop Dogg, Jamey Johnson and Kris Kristofferson. The second is a 12-inch vinyl of Crazy: The Demo Sessions. When Willie first got to Nashville, he cut some demos for Ray Price and Hal Smith’s publishing company, Pamper Music. Though these cuts were used to pitch songs to artists, including “Crazy” for Patsy Cline and producers, many weren’t released. Hence, this set features tracks spanning 1960-1966 that are raw and real.
The Notorious B.I.G., Ready to Die
The Notorious B.I.G.’s classic Ready to Die album will arrive on 12-inch vinyl on Record Store Day, featuring a gatefold jacket with original artwork. The famed set has been out of print on vinyl for at least a decade.
Phish, Lawn Boy Deluxe
Lawn Boy, Phish’s second official studio album, was originally released in 1990 and re-released by Phish in 1992 after signing with Elektra Records. Recorded in Vermont, it contains some of the popular fan-favorites in the band’s repertoire. In keeping with the previous album re-releases on the band’s label JEMP Records, this LP was created from the sessions’ original analog reels and mastered for vinyl by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. It will arrive on 12-inch vinyl.
R.E.M., Live In Greensboro EP
R.E.M. will release their Live in Greensboro EP on Record Store Day in CD format. The five-song release includes an original sew-on patch from the 1989 tour and is a taste of the music coming in honor of the 25th Anniversary release of Green-- which is set to arrive later this year. The track listing includes “So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry),” “Feeling Gravity’s Pull,” “Strange,” “King of Birds” and “I Remember California.”
Soundgarden, King Animal Demos
Soundgarden are back in full force, and the legendary grunge band will release demos from the recording sessions of their latest album, King Animal, on 10-inch vinyl this weekend. The vinyl packs demos of “Bones of Birds,” “By Crooked Steps,” “Halfway There,” “Worse Dreams,” “Black Saturday” and “A Thousand Days Before.”
Mike Watt & the Black Gang, Rebel Girl/30 Days in the Hole
Mike Watt fans may want to get their ears on this 7-inch from Mike Watt and the Black Gang, featuring Wilco’s Nels Cline on guitar and Bob Lee on drums. The A-side, a cover of Bikini Kill’s “Rebel Girl,” was recorded in 1998 in New York City. The cover of Humble Pie’s “30 Day in the Hole” was recorded in 1999 in Irvine, Calif.
