1954 - Elvis Presley signs a recording contract with Sun Records.
 
1962 - The Rolling Stones played their first ever gig. It took place at the Marquee Club in London, and the band was billed as "The Rollin' Stones."
 
1962 - The Beach Boys signed a record deal with Capital Records.
 
1968 - Black Sabbath played their first show. It took place at a small blues club in Birmingham.
 
1969 - David Bowie's "Space Oddity" was released in the UK to coincide with the Apollo 11 moon landing.
 
1985 - Live Aid took place at Wembley Stadium in London and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia. It included performances by the likes of Paul McCartney, The Who, and Bob Dylan as well as a now legendary performance by U2.
 
1993 - Guns N' Roses wrapped up their Use Your Illusion Tour in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It would be the last time that Slash and Axl Rose would share a stage until April 1, 2016.
 
1998 - Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer sustained second degree burns to his arm and hand following an accident at a gas station where his Ferrari caught fire.
 
2007 - The White Stripes played a "one note show" in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Jack White hit a C# note while Meg White hit a cymbal and bass drum, thus completing the duo's quest to play in every province in Canada.
