Kill it Kid and Circus Town Play Gibson Guitar Studio ‘Merc Live’ Series
On May 5, Kill it Kid took to the stage of the Gibson Guitar Studio for the penultimate gig of the Merc Live series. Merc Live has been a high-octane run of intimate performances held in the exclusive setting of the Gibson Guitar Studio in Central London. These gigs have been attended by Merc Live contest winners, fans, media and special guests.
Birmingham’s Circus Town opened the night with thundering drums, rumbling bass and disjointed guitar—all wrapped up with heaven-and-hell vocals. The band tore through a selection of new tracks taken from their forthcoming EP, due out later in the year.
Bath-based Kill it Kid headlined the evening with a killer set that showed hard evidence of influences like Tom Waits and The Raconteurs. The five-piece group weaved their own unique sound, style and dynamic—an impassioned, adventurous slant on blues and dark pop through powerful songs, gorgeous two-part vocals and a penchant for down-home storytelling. The band are currently on a U.K. tour, which will see them perform at London’s Bush Hall on May 25.
The Rifles will end the Merc Live series with a special performance on May 26 in the Gibson Guitar Studio. Since Merc Live’s launch, bands such as The View, Where’s Strutter?, The Heartbeats, The Moons, The Crookes, Foreign Office, Bibelots and The Kinbeats have all performed.
