Billed as a modern day musical set on the streets of Dublin, Fox Searchlight’s acclaimed new film Once stars Glen Hansard (real-life guitarist for Irish rock band the Frames) and Markéta Irglová, who plays a Baldwin piano in the movie. Already received enthusiastically at film festivals worldwide, Once is the result of tight collaboration between director John Carney and Hansard and Irglová, who wrote and performed all the original songs. At the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, Once recently took home the World Cinema Audience Award, and was soon after acquired by Fox Searchlight Pictures.

Both professional musicians acting for the first time, Hansard and Irglová play an unnamed guy and girl who find companionship with one another, musically and otherwise. Upon their first meeting, the two wander into a local piano shop, where Irglová plays a Baldwin piano and Hansard plays his beat-up guitar.

Besides being a runaway success in the theaters, Once has also made waves with its soundtrack, which is scaling the charts in Ireland and the U.S.
