Allen Toussaint

Award-winning producer, songwriter, pianist, and solo artist Allen Toussaint, seen here in New York with his Gibson BB King Lucille, celebrates his 70th birthday on Monday.

Born January 14, 1938, Toussaint was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, and continues to preserve the classic sounds of his New Orleans hometown. Although Toussaint is best known as a pianist, he started playing guitar over 60 years ago. He recently performed at the Blue Note in New York and will play the fretted instrument on the road at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in May 2008.

Toussaint is also an avid supporter of Music Rising, a campaign created to aid New Orleans' music and founded by U2's the Edge, producer Bob Ezrin, and Gibson Guitar Chairman and CEO, Henry Juszkiewicz.
