Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach unveiled a partnership announcing Gibson as the Park's official musical instrument sponsor at an official ceremony on Thursday, January 24, 2008. As part of this multi-faceted partnership, Gibson will most notably be celebrated in the center of the Park, where a 70-foot tall Gibson Guitar icon, the world's largest guitar, will tower over the Hard Rock Park lagoon. The interactive icon will be a feature in the laser and fireworks show every evening at the Hard Rock Theme Park. The icon will sit on a 600 square-foot Gibson retail store and gallery which allows for it to tower 90 feet in the air. Park-goers will be able to view displays of one-of-a-kind Gibson guitars, including the new, Gibson Robot Guitar, an automatic tuning guitar. The store will feature a special hand rail imprinted with a timeline of Gibson's history, and the interior is designed in such a way that guests will feel as though they are actually entering the inside of a guitar. The Hard Rock Theme Park will open to the public in Summer 2008.

Radiohead performed their first gig of 2008 on January 16 in London, playing their new No. 1 selling album In Rainbows in its entirety. Having surprised fans by announcing the free in-store gig at the Rough Trade East music shop in London’s Brick Lane via their website, the band found themselves as surprised as the crowd when the show had to be moved at the last minute. Following the record shop shop’s plans to show the gig on screens to fans outside in the cold, the police and local authorities stepped in with safety concerns forcing the show to be moved to the nearby 93 Feet East venue. The gig was streamed live on their website.

Q: You play Anthony Hope in Tim Burton’s hit new movie Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. How did you prepare for the role? A: I did a heap load of singing practicing and also created a background for my character with Tim Burton. I just tried to get myself in the mindset of my character, which was hard. Q: You are also the lead singer and guitarist in a band called the Darling Buds. Describe your band’s sound and general inspirations? Where can people see you play live? A: The sound, eh? It’s a mix of everything. We draw a bit on the Latino rhythm with heavy guitar sounds for a lot of tracks but also a little upbeat happy stuff for people who want to dance. Inspirations, we try to listen to everything, so there’s a lot thrown in there, not any band in particular. We’re the sound of the future! We do a lot of underage gigs. I think it’s so great that kids under 18 are doing it their own way. They seem to dance a lot more as well, which is fun.
