We The Kings Skip Record Labels, Star on Gibson’s YouTube
Acclaimed Florida alt rockers We The Kings are doing what many artists are now doing in 2013: rejecting record labels and going it alone. We The Kings are beginning work on their fourth, as-yet-untitled, studio album. This time, they’re engaging directly with their fans with help from the popular Indiegogo.com crowdfunding platform.
“You guys [the fans] are the reason we’ve made it this far to begin with,” says lead guitarist Hunter Thomsen. Singer Travis Clark adds, “You can expect this to be the best album we've ever made, because there are no strings attached. We are the ones deciding everything about this album and with your help we can truly make the best WTK album yet.”
WTK will be offering a variety of perks for their fans to contribute. The perks range anywhere from digital delivery of the album 24 hours prior to release, to letting a fan record vocal tracks on the new album. We The Kings’ Indiegogo campaign page can be found at igg.me/at/wethekings.
We The Kings’ independence is a success so far. Their first self-released song “Just Keep Breathing” was a Top Five iTunes track, a debut on the Billboard “Hot 100 Singles” chart, and had first month sales of over 149,000. Two more successful direct-to-fan releases on iTunes followed, “Find You There” and “Any Other Way.”
Gibson fans-all, We The Kings are keeping their profile high by continuing to record for the Gibson Entertainment channel on YouTube.
