Inspector – Gibson Brands, Inc. – Memphis Division

Job Location: Memphis, TN

Gibson Brands, Inc., the world’s premier musical instrument manufacturer and the home of such preeminent brands as Gibson, Epiphone, Baldwin and Wurlitzer, is looking for an Inspector to join the manufacturing team. This position will be based at our Downtown Memphis manufacturing facility, located in vibrant Memphis, Tennessee.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to inspecting guitars in Final Assembly.

Inspects guitar after the building and adjusting and buffing processes.  Guitars are to be inspected for playability, finishing and electronic requirements.  Work is based upon a daily production quantity and candidate will be expected to work in a fast pace production environment and produce quality work.

To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required.

  • Knowledge of the guitar and its mechanical functions including bridge pickups, pick up selector, volume and tone knobs, tuners and other hardware.  Knowledge of wood finishing.
      Skills and Abilities
  • Must be familiar with measuring tools, calipers, scales and feeler gauges.
  • Must be able to operate power tools for installation of hardware.
  • Proven repair skills – bridge pickups and other hardware including stringing.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide feedback to fellow workers.

  • Strong computer skills. Ie. Microsoft Excel software experience
  • Attention to Detail
  • Safe work habits
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 to 4 years relevant guitar playing experience required.
  • Previous experience should center on daily production requirements, whether determined by a supervisor or by the speed of the assembly line.
  • Prior experience inspecting finishing of a wood product.
  • Strong attention to detail skills
Incumbent bust be able to stand on feet for 8 – 10 hours per day. Must be able to lift, push and pull a minimum of 25 lbs. Position requires utilization of hand tools in a repetitive motion. The position exists in a fast paced environment. Work is conducted in a loud and dusty environment.
