Summary:

This is an opportunity to join an iconic market leader in the manufacture and distribution of musical instruments, consumer electronics and professional audio as Global Head of Procurement and Logistics.  The new executive will lead the overall design and implementation of strategies and objectives for procurement and logistics for all areas of the business which are substantial in scale. The new executive will be part of a newly recruited Senior Management team that will set the company up for continued growth and success.  The executive will have the opportunity to build a team, helping to create a world class organization.  There is also the possibility of an IPO in the next two to three years.

The ideal candidate will need to be a very experienced procurement/logistics executive with a world class background.  A minimum of 15-20 years of increasingly responsible positions and a superior track record of accomplishments is preferred.  Candidates should have experience in a large company with multiple divisions, locations and international geographies.  Ideally, candidates should have experience in a Consumer Manufacturing Company with complex purchasing and manufacturing requirements, and broad base distribution needs.

Candidates must have an undergraduate degree, but an MBA is preferred.  Lastly, the successful candidate must be able to work closely with the CEO and Executive Team, leveraging his/her leadership and managerial skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with General Managers to develop and implement a world class procurement and logistics strategy with the lowest costs, greatest efficiency, and maximum return on assets. Develop specific plans and tactics to accomplish business objectives for Gibson
  • Provide direct leadership for a procurement/logistics team consisting of Procurement and Logistics Managers, and support teams. Ensure team receives appropriate training and managerial development, as well as systems skills in the use of internal logistics/distribution optimization software and procurement tools
  • Create a customer-driven organization that is perceived to be responsive to all customer expectations and requirements.
  • Establish benchmarks and implement cost, quality and delivery metrics, and standard measures for all locations. Continually monitor performance against customer service requirements; achieve a competitive advantage
  • Develop and implement distribution management processes and systems needed to minimize costs and maximize service. Analyze distribution/logistics operations to determine appropriate infrastructure to support corporate growth
  • Identify and implement cutting-edge cost management and asset management programs in the procurement/logistics functions
  • Identify and develop opportunities for business improvement through constant evaluation of industry relationships, partners, technology and “best in class” principles. Be responsible for all negotiations with major suppliers
  • Ensure technology is advanced and an ‘enabling’ tool – ensure upgrades and functionality is maintained to meet the increasing complexity of the business
  • Responsible for overall management, coordination and direction of annual spending
  • Responsible for setting best practice supplier management techniques to develop supplier relationships (including scorecards, internal metrics and inventory control)
  • Develop strategic relationships with targeted supplier base in line with business needs
  • Develop global implementation of distribution best practices such as systems integration and optimization, inventory control, demand planning and SKU optimization
  • Drive operational excellence and best practices across the network to improve performance and reduce cost

Qualifications & Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required but Master’s degree preferred.
  • 15 – 20 years of overall experience
  • Minimum of 10 years proven procurement and logistics success in a large firm that manufactures and distributes consumer goods globally
  • Understand the complexity involved in a complex and highly decentralized business model, including working with contract manufacturers, logistics vendors and other outsourced relationships
  • Must demonstrate financial discipline and rigorous planning and execution skills
  • Expertise in procurement and logistics systems
  • Confident, smart leader who can demonstrate strong negotiation, analytical and problem solving skills
  • International experience is required
  • Experience negotiating and building relationships, strategic alliances, partnerships and long term agreements with outside vendors to optimize quality and costs.
  • Demonstrates ability to build a responsive and high performing organization in a fast-paced, ever-changing, challenging environment
