EHS Specialist

Job Location: Nashville, TN


SUMMARY: This position is responsible for all environmental, health, and safety activities for the manufacturing site including: regulatory compliance, program development, implementation and management, report generation and submittal, management of air, land, and water emissions, waste reduction and disposal, and provision of on-site expertise for all environmental, health, safety and process safety issues.



  • Implements, maintains, and improves process safety management/risk management programs.

  • Implement, maintains, and improves occupational safety including risk assessment, job safety analyses, process hazard analyses, etc.

  • Maintains and applies knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes.

  • Recommends process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards.

  • Inspects facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and corrects potential hazards, and ensures safety regulation compliance.

  • Investigates industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures.

  • Reviews plans and specifications for construction of new machinery or equipment to determine whether all safety requirements have been met.

  • Reports or reviews findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing.

  • Interviews management and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents.

  • Conducts all emergency planning and response activities. Provides regulatory compliance management for all EHS activities.

  • Maintains, prepares and/or submits all required government/regulatory/environmental reports (e.g. biannual/annual Title V reports regarding VOC emissions, annual hazardous materials reporting, perpetual inventory for Title V, maintenance of Access database of all emissions, permit renewals, maintenance of SDSs etc.).

  • Conducts compliance audits.

  • Reviews employee safety programs to determine their adequacy and implements safety training programs (e.g. lockout/tagout, bloodborne pathogens, ergonomics, etc.).

  • Ensures employee participation with training (initial & refresher) and maintains training documentation.

  • Interfaces and represents Company with local industry groups and regulatory agencies.

  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, environmental or a related technical discipline preferred. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 5+ years related EHS experience and training.

  • 5+ years of experience preferably in a chemical manufacturing or wood processing environment.

  • Knowledgeable and experienced with all applicable environmental, safety and process safety regulations.

  • Experience leading Safety & Industrial Hygiene projects. Process Improvement project experience is a plus.

  • Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite)

  • Professional, self-motivated, highly detailed and accurate, strong interpersonal and communication skills.
