Austin based visual artist, Shanny Lott picked up her ten foot tall Gibson Guitar sculpture for the Austin GuitarTown project. The ten foot tall sculptures will soon come to life as they are painted by the group of selected artists announced today. |
AUSTIN, TEXAS - Gibson Guitar, the presenting sponsor of Austin GuitarTown is proud to announce the artists chosen to take part in the local public arts project. The project's steering committee has voted, and the fifty-two (52) names released are those artists chosen to creatively paint either a ten foot tall Gibson Guitar sculpture or one of the regular size showcase guitars, all of which will be displayed throughout the city of Austin in early Fall 2006. Approximately, sixty (60) guitars (thirty 10-foot and thirty showcase guitars), will be painted for the project.

The official unveiling of the artistically created and designed Gibson guitar sculptures will be held in early Fall 2006. The sculptures will then be placed throughout the city and later auctioned off for four locals charities: the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM), The Austin Museum of Art (AMOA), American Youthworks, and the Austin Children's Museum. Other similar projects throughout the country have risen over half a million dollars for charity.
“The artistry and musical heritage of Austin, Texas, and Gibson Guitar will surely show through during this amazing project,” said Henry Juszkiewicz, Chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar, the presenting sponsor. “It is amazing to see the creativity of all the designs chosen, and we cannot wait to see them take form and exhibited throughout the great town of Austin.”
All guitar sculptures will be placed throughout Austin in front of the city's landmarks and businesses and inside viewing locations until mid-2007. Various companies and corporations will be asked to serve as sponsors of the project, which will serve as an artistic reminder and display of Austin's great musical heritage. In addition, celebrities will be paired with a majority of the visual artists.
The Austin GuitarTown Committee includes:
Honorary Chairman Henry Juszkiewicz (Chairman and CEO/Gibson Guitar Corp)
